Free Time (Plus pictures)
Feb. 27th, 2008 11:13 pmSo I installed Free Time last night. After dealing with the hacks that somehow were hidden in my downloads folder, backing up my legacy neighborhood and cloning several townies (because I won’t have SimPe for a long time), I finally tried it with my Gen 4 spare (Helena).
I was asked to post pictures about the new things I’ve found in this EP.
So, here they are ^^.

The loading screen, obviously. I've noticed it takes a little longer to load my game, but it's nothing too bad.
I must say that I played this session of Free Time with some MATY and twojeff hacks installed (as a test), so I'm pretty sure that's what made the game lag a little at the beginning.

The new neighborhood. At this point I noticed that I didn't have my sim!bin families at all.
I'll try loading the game without any hacks later, because the first time I played, I could still see my sim!bin families.
And now, for those who love the Maxis townies, here's a glimpse of the new playable families:

I didn't want to mess with them at the moment, so I went ahead and created a new "Guinea Pig familiy".

All my custom content worked, including my genetized eyes and skins.
I'm sure you've already seen pictures of the new bodyshop items, so I'll skip that.
I just want to note that the only new hair for this EP (not counting the hats) is an exact replica of an OFB hair.
Yeah, so if you have OFB, you now have two identical hairs in your bin :P

This surprised me. I didn't expect to see jewelry in this EP.

But this one was an even better surprise! The new turn ons and turn offs!

Well, let's go back to our game.
So, here's the Ratatouille Family.
Yeah, me and my silly naming themes.

This appeared as soon as I loaded the lot.
Uh? Does that mean that this EP made my sims smarter? Really?

So let's see the new lifetime aspiration meter.
This is what you see when you place your mouse cursor over it.
As you can see, my sim (a male adult named Alfredo), had 5 points ready to use.
It seems that your CAS sims also get default reward points, just like any other sim you had before installing the game.

Alfredo didn't have a "destined hobby" either.
At first, I thought that was a glitch, for neither Colette (his fiancée) nor his children had them.
But then I discovered that you have to try different hobbies until you find your sim's favorite one.

Let's go back to the Aspiration rewards.
Just like in OFB, you have four ways to spend your points: Motives, Work, Current aspiration and Unlock a second aspiration.

I used four of Alfredo's points to unlock all the fortune rewards.

And I used the last one to unlock a second aspiration: Grilled Cheese.
If Alfredo gets married, has kids or gets promoted, he'll earn more points to unlock more rewards.

WIth a second aspiration, your sim rolls wants from his two asp. As you can see, Alfredo has two fortune wants and two grilled cheese wants.

FT has new careers, and therefore new LTW.
It seems that you can still achieve platinum mode with the LTW, unlike what I've read at MATY earlier.

For Colette, I unlocked all her knowledge rewards, including one I'm gonna try at the end of this photoshoot.

Remy, a male child, only had two points to use, and obviously, he can't use them for aspiration rewards yet.

So now let's see how the objects work.
Here's toddler Annie in her new bedroom.
FT has a lot of objects and most of them are adorable. I love the baby stuff, and everything you see here is Maxis stuff.
There's also a lot of clutter objects and "themes" like Techno, Modern, Classic, Sporty, Bohemian, etc.
You'll see them in the next pictures.

Here's Annie trying out the activity table.
She can learn creativity by drawing.

Or mechanical skills with block building.

You can put the toddler drawings in the wall.

Random shot of a cute object.
I also noticed that there's a pre-school at Desiderata Valley! :)

Here's another adorable interaction.
Remy's teaching Annie a nursery rhyme.
She learns charisma at the same time.

Annie can sing the rhyme later (alone or with her brother) and this interaction builds her interest in the musical hobby.

Here's Remy painting.
I want to show you something I discovered by accident.

Here's the finished picture.
Just click on it and select the frame option and...

Voila! Your custom paintings now have frames, and there are a few options to choose from.
Sadly, I wasn't able to add frames to my previous paintings, like my legacy portraits.

Here's Remy using a new toy, the helicopter.

It goes around the house...

Here's a glimpse of the Bohemian/Artsy decoration theme. It's awesome!

Now who's this guy?

Yup, this is the computer that includes The Sims 3.
Did you notice in the previous picture that it said something about Colette gaining enthusiasm in the art and crafts hobby?

Well, I had her use the sewing machine.
When you use objects related to a particular hobby, your sim wins enthusiasm points and therefore unlocks new interactions and rewards.
Soon, your sim can read books about the hobby, subscribe to a magazine, blog about it, chat about it, teach about, unlock new recipes, new interactions and finally, enter "The Zone".

The sewing machine works like the OFB objects.
You select the color of the object you want to create.
Since Colette is a novice, she can only make potholders for now.

Several hours later, Colette wins the bronze badge, and with it new options.

I wonder what kind of things she'd be able to do if she had the silver or gold badges? I'll keep working on it.

Colette had zero creativity points, so I sent her to the violin.
Man! She was awful!

So, I made a little experiment with Merola's Multi-Painting (BTW, I lost the recolours of this painting) and max her skills.

With 10 creativity points, Colette became an expert musician.
So, the violin works like the rest of the instruments.

This little experiment made me realize that Colette's predestined hobby is music.

She can still get involved in other hobbies, but she'll earn points and enthusiasm faster in the music field.

What about Alfredo?
Well, here he is playing with the train.
He's placing a town.
You can place towns, rivers, trees, bridges and more in the train model.

See?
Now let's try and operate this thing...

Uh Oh...

WHAT?!

Perhaps it was his lack of mechanical/logic skills, but somehow Alfredo created a huge mess.
Good thing that Remy called the Firemen in time, otherwise Alfredo would had died.

The welcome wagon chose this moment to visit the lot.
Here's Louie Aspir.

Victor Aspir.

And Violet Una, a grilled cheese lady that somehow (when SimPe is updated) I'm gonna add to my legacy! :P

The Ratatouilles soon got them involved in an interesting game of "Don't wake the Llama".

AKA the Sim version of Jenga.

The Gypsy also visited the lot.

But there was no option to get a Genie.
I wonder how you achieve it.

I sent Alfredo inside to be part of a safer hobby.
Here he is watching a horror movie named "Werewolf".
The movies are hilarious and there are several options and genres.

When you click on a bookcase, you get a new option to study "parenting".
It seems that it lets you check on your babies needs.

Here are many options for the computer.
As you can see, the fortune reward is also included.

Here's the selection screen for writing a novel.
You pick the "plot elements" (or pictures) and the cover (LOL, Harry Potter).
I wonder if the right choice will be related to creating a best seller or not.

I then sent Alfredo to fix the car. I skipped the engine options, though.

This one just let Alfredo serve berry, peach or some other fruit "punch".

Here's Remy playing soccer against Louie Aspir.
The message is related to Alfredo's fortune reward.

Remy also enjoys reading, and there are now many options.

As you can see, he's clearly reading Cosmo Broke's memories :P

Remy can clearly imagine the scenery of Graslax.

Here are some options for the synthesizer.
I still haven't figured out how to use them well.

These are the new wants.
The one with the yellow faces is "To become BFF (best friends forever) with a sim". BFF's get new interactions like "Inside joke".

So let's try the other two interactions that had me tempted to get BV.

I sent my family to a community lot (WALKING!) and they were able to get married on a community lot.
It's official: Everything I wanted from BV is included in FT! :)

Some random pictures:
Here's Violet Una showing us the idle animation of the "arts and crafts" hobby.

And here's Ripp Grunt (LOL, spoiler for my legacy) showing the one from his predestined hobby: Science! :D

He also enjoys bird watching...

And creating pottery (it works like the sewing machine, so you get new options when you earn talent badges).

And stargazing. When you get enough enthusiasm in the science hobby, you can "look for constellations".
Nope, he didn't get abducted.

But someone else did...
Remember the knowledge aspiration top reward?
Here's Colette summoning the aliens.

I hope you found theses pictures useful.
So far, FT is an excellent EP, with so many new options that'll require a long time to explore.
As for the Suckurom issue, I'm using a NO-CD patch to stop it, as I read at MATY.
It’s safe to use, and I haven’t had a single problem so far.
If someone wants it, I can upload it to my Box.net account.
I'll also upload Venus (as requested), who I cloned before installing FT.
And there’s a new update for the Brokes coming up this weekend! :)
I just hope Insim or SimPe get updated soon!
See you next time!
