The Broke Legacy: Generation 2.7.
Jul. 4th, 2007 07:07 pm
Previous update: Gen 2.6.
Warning:Suggestive themes (well, what it's expected in a legacy).

Dear Dad,
I hope things are fine back home. Please say hello to Mom and the twins. I can't believe they are so close to finishing High School.
It's gonna be great having them here. Don't worry; I'll make sure they study hard.

School is hard, as always. I'm literally counting the days until I finish Junior Year.
The teachers this semester have been so mean and I've barely had time to relax.

I'm also earning a few bucks teaching my dorm mates to play the guitar...

... I'm afraid my ears are resenting these classes. But of course, I won't tell my "students" that!

But that's not the reason I'm writing to you this letter.
I've got great news, Dad!
News that have me literally flying with joy!

I'm almost as high as when someone uses the bubble blower...
... not that I know about that first hand. Of course not...!

It's about Bella.
I know I've barely told you about her, Dad.
I'm waiting for the right moment to sit down with you and talk.

Bella's story is... special.
And that's why she's mellow most of the time.

Therefore, it's become my duty to cheer her up.

I don't care if I have to make a fool out of myself.

Her smile is worth that, and much more...

I'm completely in love with her, Dad.
I now understand what you meant when you told me about your story with Mom.

I love her so much, that I made a pretty big decision the other day.
I took her out to a very fancy restaurant.
Andromeda recommended it to me. It's called Londoste.
He says that's the place he takes his dates to before... pollinating them.
Yeah, I don't wanna know what else he does with them...

We had a very nice dinner.
I even ordered a bottle of Champagne.
I'm now broke, by the way.

Then we danced for hours.
And as I looked at her face and lovely smile, I decided I'd do anything to always keep her as happy as she was then.
She deserves it, after everything she's been through.

Therefore I dropped on my knees and asked her to marry me.
I love you, Bella. And there's nothing I want more in my life that to make you happy.
Please, let me show you that there's always a second chance in life.

I was afraid she'd say no, Dad.
She was a bit hesitant when we started dating...
But she accepted!

I was literally on cloud number 9 when I returned to the dorm.
Can you believe it, Dad?
I'm getting married!
And to the most wonderful woman in the Universe! (And I know a large chunk of it, by the way).

I can't wait for you to meet her, Dad.
I'm sure you're gonna love her.
Gotta go, I need to have some research done.
Take care, Dad.
- Cosmo.

Angela,
I can't call you because the line is currently busy.
Beau is talking to Lucy right now.
But I needed to get in contact with you as soon as possible.
You won't believe what happened tonight...

I was in the kitchen, preparing a salad.
We were preparing a special dinner for Cosmo and her fiancée, Bella.
Neither Beau nor I had ever seen this girl, but Cosmo was so excited about his impending marriage that we invited them over.
Suddenly, Beau entered the kitchen.
He was freaked out.

"Lilith... I need you to confirm me something."
"What's wrong, Beau? Didn't Cosmo arrive just a minute ago?"
"Yeah... he's here. Lilith... please take a look at Beau's fiancée, please..."
"What? OK..."

I left the kitchen and, just as I imagined, Icaro was in the living room, talking to...
You won't believe me, Angela, but I swear it's the truth...
He was talking to Bella Goth.

Yeah, sis. That Bella Goth.
The one whose face we saw every morning for breakfast.
That's why Beau was so confused.
He was just a baby when Bella disappeared, so he didn't remember how huge the deal was back then.

"That's Bella Goth, Beau! This is insane! That woman was supposed to be dead!"
"Then I guess she somehow survived whatever accident happened to her all those years ago..."
"Even if she had survived, she should be dead by now! My mother was Cassandra's best friend when she was a kid. She always told me how nice Cassandra's Mom was to her... the same woman who wants to marry our son!"

"Calm down, Lilith. We shouldn't jump to conclusions until we make sure she is indeed the real Bella Goth."
"She IS Bella Goth. There's no doubt about that. What should we do?"
"I don't know... but I don't like this situation at all..."

It was so surreal, to have such a legendary character in our living room.
And neither Cosmo nor Icaro had idea about what was going on.

Beau was so freaked out that he burned the salmon.

But there was no time for preparing another dinner, so we had to eat that instead.
"I hope you like this new recipe. It’s toasted salmon."

Beau and I were so stressed that we couldn't say even a single word during the dinner.
We just ate in silence, glancing at Bella now and then.

Cosmo eventually noticed that something odd was going on, though.
He wasn't as cheerful as always, and he even said he wasn't hungry, despite Salmon being his favorite dish.

It was Molly who eventually broke the silence.
"So, are you planning to have kids soon?"

Bella paled before answering- "Uh...sure. Not right now, though. I don't think I'm ready for such a responsibility yet. Babies must be complicated to handle... that's what I've been told..."

That's when I heard Beau standing up.
"Honey?"

"I need to make a phone call... I forgot to send some grades to La Fiesta Tech and they need them right now..."

Beau is talking to Lucy right now.
We are scared, Angela. What should we do?

Cosmo looks so in love with her, Angela.
It's gonna break his heart to learn the truth...

"What's up, man? Did you want some lovin' lessons from yours truly?"
"No... It’s not that. I... just needed to talk to someone..."

"What's wrong, Cosmo? You usually aren't this gloomy..."

"It's my father, Andromeda. He just left a couple minutes ago..."

"Right! I forgot you're Prof. Broke's son. Man! Everyone on campus says he's so strict..."
"The same could be told for your father, Andromeda."

Anyway, so my father came to visit me by surprise.
Well, to tell you the truth, I sort of expected it.
I was sure he'd want to have one of our "man to man" conversations after I announced my engagement.
I thought he'd have so many things to tell me, like how to keep my future wife happy, that sort of stuff.
But he remained quiet... it was so odd...
Eventually, it was me who had to break the silence...
"Dad?"

"Cosmo... I need to talk to you about Bella..."
"Isn't she great?"
"Yeah, she seems like an interesting woman. But..."
"What's wrong?"
"There's something... odd about her..."
"Oh! That's pretty normal, Dad. She spent a long time in space with the Graslaxians. Of course she's not used to life among humans yet!"

"That's not what I mean, Cosmo. I... I just don't like her... You don't know about her life before she was abducted and..."
"Neither does she, Dad. But I don't mind. We're just going to start over again! It'll be fine!"
"No, Cosmo. It won't be fine. Her past will always be a shadow in your relationship and..."

"I can't believe you of all people are telling me this, Dad! You! The one who left his hometown because he didn't want to be marked by his past anymore! The one who wanted to break your family's so called curse! The one who believed in starting over!"
"Cosmo, it's not the same..."
"It is for me! Man! I can't believe you're being such a hypocrite!"

"Will you listen to me, Cosmo? It's not the same story! I... I don't want her to break your heart! I won't allow it! I forbid you to marry her!"

"Well guess what, father? I'm not a kid anymore. I don't need your permission to be with the woman I love. And just as you were able to start over in another town, I'll do the same. I'm moving away with Bella, whether you like it or not."

"My father didn't say anything more and just left. I... I don’t know what to feel right now... I'm so angry, but at the same time I'm so sad. I've never felt so distant from my father, despite living galaxies away for a few years."

"Man! I don't know what to say, Cosmo. But if your love for Bella is more important than your family, then you made the right decision. That's why I won't bother with serious relationships... it's not worth it..."
____________________________

Perhaps it wasn't worth it for Andromeda, but it was for me.
It hurt like hell to be so distant from my family, but I wasn't gonna let them destroy the future I had planned with Bella.
It had been a year since I argued with my father. No letters or e-mails from home were sent since then.
Well, so be it...

Besides, I was too busy writing my Senior Thesis to worry about them.
I had to finish school as soon as possible in order to move away to Riverblossom Hills with Bella.
I still kept in contact with Reneé, and she was looking for a cheap apartment for us to settle in.

I was also saving as much money as possible.
I usually earned large tips from playing the guitar around campus.

The months went by, and soon it was time for Andromeda to graduate and move back to Strangetown.
He was planning to open an "Aphrodisiac Restaurant" and seduce as many girls as possible.
Sometimes I envied his carefree way of life.
Life in the dorm was gonna be so lonely without him...

Well... technically life wasn't so supposed to be lonely.
The twins had moved to the dorm a few weeks before.
Pity that I also wasn't on speaking terms with them either.
For some reasons, they also were against my marriage with Bella.

It was such a shock to see how much they had grown is just a year.
Molly was such a beautiful woman, who looked so much like Mom.
Icaro, on the other hand, was almost the splitting image of Uncle Dustin.

Being the outgoing twin, Molly quickly became friends with the girls at the dorm.
She still kept her old childhood love for bubbles.
Although these were quite different...

Icaro was as shy as ever.
He spent most of the time working on his many Economy reports and essays.
He still followed the "time is money" philosophy, so he wasn't going to waste his time at all.

But it was Icaro who finally sat down with me one afternoon.
"You can't avoid us forever, Bro. What happened to all those plans we had for when we joined you at College?"
"It's not my fault that you two decided to side with Dad against my marriage. If only you'd understand what I feel for her..."
"We do understand, Cosmo. It's you the one who needs to listen to Dad's reasons. He didn't want to hurt you, so he didn't tell you the truth back then. But I'm not like him. Here, take a look at this."

"Another photo album?"

The pictures I found inside shocked me: It was Bella!
There were pictures of her Wedding with an unknown man.
Pictures of a little girl.
And of a baby.
I was always aware of Bella's unknown past, but I wasn't prepared for this...

"Bella was the wife of an important scientist back in Pleasantview, Cosmo. She disappeared when Dad was just a baby and no one knew what happened to her. Her family looked for her for years..."
"H... how do you know this? Did Dad tell you this story?"

"No, it was me."

It was Lucy Burb, Dad's best friend. What was she doing in La Fiesta Tech?
"Cosmo, you weren't on Earth when I got married, so I'd like you to meet my husband..."

"Alexander Goth"
"Goth? As in...?"
"That's right, Cosmo. I'm Bella's son."

I was stunned: The man sitting in front of me was at least 55 years old. How could he be Bella's son?
But deep inside I knew the answer: Bella was fed with liters of Elixir back at the Space Ship. That's why she remained young for so long...
Alexander sat down next to me.
"Trust me, Cosmo. This is as awkward for me, as it is for you..."

"Why?"
"Well, I actually never met my mother. I was just a toddler when she disappeared..."

"My father loved her deeply. He never recovered from his loss. It was especially painful the fact that her body was never found. Dad always believed that the aliens had abducted her. Of course, no one believed him."
"Your father was right, Alexander. I met Bella on board the Graslaxian space ship. She was abducted many years ago..."
"53 years ago, to be exact."
"Right..."

"How is my mother, Cosmo?"
"Well..."
Awkward or not, Alexander deserved to know how special his mother was. So I spent a long time telling him stories about the years I spent with her up space. Her stories and jokes. Her comforting words. How she always made me feel special when I missed my family. In that moment, I realized that the need for reproduction from the Graslaxians had affected one family in the end: The Goths. Bella's children deserved to have their mother with them. It wasn't fair for them.

"She's as beautiful as in the pictures you showed me, Alexander. I'm thankful for having met her. And you are going to meet her very soon too."
"I... thank you, Cosmo. I hope she wants to meet me..."
"Of course she will! She just can't remember her family. But as soon as I show her these pictures I bet she'll be dying to meet you!"

As I bid farewell to Alexander Goth, I promised him once again that he'd have his mother back.
"I'll call you as soon as I talk to her, Alex."

And that talk took place that very night. I invited Bella over for dinner...
"Bella? There's something important I need to show you..."

As she studied the photo album, her face became gradually paler. She was literally trembling when she handed me the book back.

"Where did you find these pictures, Cosmo?"
"I met your son, Bella! He's the baby from the pictures!"
"Alexander?"
"Yeah! Isn't it great...? Wait a minute..."

"How did you know that his name is Alexander? I thought you had forgotten everything about your familiy..."
"I'm sorry Cosmo. I've lied to you all this time... I never forgot about them..."
"But why... why didn't you look for them...?"
"Of course I did, Cosmo. First thing I did as soon as you rescued me from that bar was to google them on the internet. I realized that Mortimer looked for me for a long time and died alone. I know that Cassandra married that filth Don Lothario and eventually divorced him to marry Darren Dreamer..."
"Dreamer? As in..."
"Yes. My daughter eventually became your brother Henry's grandmother. I also know that Alexander married Lucy Burb. I met your grandmother pretty well too, for I used to baby-sit her when I was a teen."
"Then why haven't you contacted Alex? He misses you!"
"I... I don't deserve him, Cosmo. He doesn't deserve to know the truth... it's better if he thinks I was dead..."
"Too late for that, Bella! What's going on?! Tell me the truth!"

"Cassandra was so young when she met Don Lothario. Barely a teen, but she fell deeply in love with him. I tried to avoid that relationship, but it was impossible. He eventually asked her to marry him. She was waiting until her 18th birthday for the wedding to take place."
"I know who Don Lothario is. He dated my grandma when Dad was still a toddler. He impregnated her and she later gave birth to my Uncle David. Don never acknowledged him as his son, though... I understand why you didn't want him to date Cassandra, Bella..."
"Cosmo. I didn't want them to break up for my daughter's well-being. I wanted them to break up for my own convenience. You see... I was Don's lover at that time."
"Wh... what?"
"Mortimer was so busy with his studies... and I felt so alone. And Don was so handsome and a great lover in bed."
"Bella..."
"I usually told both my daughter and husband that I was visiting some friends every Wednesday night. But it was a lie! I actually went to Don's arms on their backs! Until that fateful night, when he showed me his new telescope... one moment I was looking at the stars and the next one... well... you know what happened..."

"I lost everything, Cosmo! My family, my fortune, my life! I was punished for being so selfish, for betraying those who loved me the most! I've learned to live with that, Cosmo. I don't deserve to be back in Alex's life."
I couldn't let her suffer like that. Sure, she made a mistake (well, a big one), but she had suffered a lot for that. She deserved a second chance. She had done a lot of good stuff since those days. She was so selfless with me. She deserved happiness...

And that's precisely what I told her that night.
The past was in the past. I trusted her to not repeat that mistake ever again.
I promised I would make her happy.
We'd start a new future together.
And if she allowed me, she could recover what little of her past she still had.
"Alex will understand, Bella. Please! He deserves to know you!"

As I embraced her, I felt the desire to prove her how much I loved her.
So, without saying another word, I held her hand and took her to my room.
I was ready for the next step...

It was the best night of my life...

I fell asleep, dreaming of all the nights we'd spend together once we were married.
I didn't notice when Bella stood up, though...

When I woke up the following morning, her side was cold again.
Where was she?

I found a note on my desk.
I'm sorry, Cosmo. You are a good man and also deserve better than me. I don't think I'll ever be able to face Alex or you now that you know the truth about my past. I'm sorry. We both need to start a new future. But you deserve a better one than mine... Bella.-"

Needless to say, that note broke my heart.

I spent the following days locked inside my room. What went wrong? I... I gave Bella all the support she needed! All my love! Why did she have to leave me?
Eventually, I learned that life went on, and with the help of my brothers I returned to my normal activities.
Molly constantly hugged me and said that she'd introduce me to her friends.

Icaro had another approach, though.

We became an incredible musical duo at the dorm. We played together for hours. And with my music, I was able to let loose all the sadness and frustration living deep inside me.

But all things must eventually end. And soon I graduated Summa Cum Laude from College.

And for such a big event, my family threw a very big party in my honor. The twins convinced the cook to let them celebrate in the dorm's cafeteria.
Let me tell you, it was a crazy party!

Molly spent a lot if time with the fruit punch dispenser...

And Icaro worked as the party DJ...

Meanwhile, Dad and I showed everyone on campus that we Brokes are awesome dancers!

Well... sort of...

Dad was so proud of me. I felt so bad for all those months we spent not talking to each other.
But not anymore. I now knew that there's nothing more important than family.

The party was a success. But soon it was time for me to leave my carefree college years and become a real adult.

When I arrived to College four years ago, I never expected the kinds of things I lived to happen.
Sure, there were pretty bad things, but in the end, everything helped me grow and mature into the man I am today.
Good bye, La Fiesta Tech.
Thanks for everything!
_________________________________

It was so odd to be back at my old childhood bedroom after all this time.
It was also weird to have it all by myself after sharing it all my life with either Henry or Icaro.

First thing I did was to look for a job.

I was soon hired as an Intern at the Strangetown's County Hospital.

I also brought my guitar back from College.

After eating cafeteria food for four years, it was a blessing to eat homemade meals again.
Even if it was me the one who prepared them.

The house felt empty without Molly and Icaro, though.
But my parents were glad to have me back.

Dad was still as cheerful as ever.
He was now one of La Fiesta Tech's most respected Professors.
So much, that there was even talk about electing him as the Dean.

We spent a lot of time together, just like during my teenage years.

The effects from the Elixir were gone from Mom, so she had finally entered her Golden years.
Perhaps I'm biased, but I swear she's now prettier than ever.

She still loved to paint in her free time.
She had finally retired from her job as a Mayor and now worked as a government assessor twice a week.

She painted me a portrait as a graduation gift.

One year went by, and I was soon promoted to Resident.
I chose the night shift at the ER, from 18:00 to 01:00 hours.
Sure, it was a bit tiring and it meant I wouldn't see my family frequently.
But just as the people at the hospital said, I had no wife nor kids, nor any other kind of responsibility in my life besides my job.
I was perfect for that position.

Or so I thought, for one night, just as I returned home from work, someone called my name...
"Cosmo?"

I couldn't believe it when I saw her!
It was Bella!

"Bella! What are you doing here? I'm so glad to see you! I..."

An odd sound coming from the bundle at Bella's arms called my attention.
"Bella?"

Bella stepped into the light.
Two bright blue eyes, just like mine, looked at me.
"Cosmo... this is Andrew... your son..."

Notes:
- Starting from this update, I'll keep all the Broke Legacy entries in my new Sims Livejournal,
- Man! College really took forever! I'm afraid that, unless I can find a 3-room-dorm for download, this is the last time I let one of my Sims go to College. My computer crawled with the effort from loading that dorm, and the graphics often looked crappy because of that.
- Just as I thought, Icaro inherited the Pleasant nose. I still love him, though :D.
- Generation 3 is here! Yay! I just need to have Andrew (or whatever other kids Cosmo has) breed and I'll break my legacy record! :S.
- I chose the name Andrew because I noticed that Bella liked to name her kids with names including the "Andros" particle (which means "male" or "man" in Greek.). Yay for almost forgotten high school Etymology classes!
- Just to spice my game a bit, I changed the default eyes for the Barcelonista ones when Cosmo returned to the Broke house. I'm not sure if I'll keep them or not. I'm still not used to the way my sims look with them.
- Cosmo is still obsessed with that damn guitar. First want as soon as he returned to his house? "Buy a guitar”:D
- Next update will take a little while, because I'm gonna download and decor a new house before I play. My Brokes currently have 90000 simoleons on their account, so it's finally time to upgrade their home with something better than my crappy attempts at building.

Date: 2007-07-05 01:00 am (UTC)Yay! I've already added you back! ^_^
Thank you very much for the comments! :)
Yup, that hair is one of the newest ones from Rose Sims. I mean, from the booty... ARRR! :S
Sim genetics are indeed awesome! When I saw Icaro as a young adult I was surprised by how much he looked like Dustin. I don't know if it was the mix of Liliths genes, but it was hilarious :).
Cosmo and Beau look so much alike in this photo. It's so adorable.
Indeed. That's why I added it to the update. They were smutling and were so coordinated that they made the same movements at the same time. It was hilarious! ^^
Thanks again!
