15 New Bulletin Boards For Your Sims
Apr. 19th, 2009 08:07 pmI haven't been in the mood to post anything lately. Maybe it's the stress from all the Graduate School paperwork and things I need to do now (which seem 10 times more complicated when done from out of the US), but I've been in a very bad mood and get angry easily.
The good side is that this week I accepted the offer from the University of Texas at Austin. I was also accepted at the University of Georgia, but Austin was always my first choice. So, as for two days ago, I'm officially a student over there. I even got my student number. The bad side is that I have to embark in an endless oddissey of visa requirements, financial papers and who knows what else (plus looking for an apartment because everyone has told me that I'd have to be insane to move to a dorm as a graduate student), so my stomach is literally a knot right now.
Fortunately, I'm going back to work tomorrow, so I hope that the distraction of being with my little students will let me relax and improve my mood. I'm looking forward to that :) (my left hand, though, not so much. It's time to draw 1000000000 pokémons - "Reikazar" (sp? That's what the kids call it) in particular- a day again!
In the mean time, I've done some Sim deco as a distraction. It's currently in the moderation queue at ModTheSims 2 but what the heck, I'm impatient. So I'm gonna show it to my f-list for now.

These are all recolors of the "Stick em Up" Bulletin Board from the University EP. I recently learned how to extract literally all the textures from the game, so I went a bit crazy and ended with tons of little pics and bits that I then organized into these neat bulletin boards.
This is also a bonus for my sister, who's jealous of my PC and its ability to play SPs like Teen Style Stuff (As some of you may know, she's a Mac User). She liked the posters, so I dissected them and included some of their pictures on the boards, so now she can decorate her dorms with the teen stuff.
I also made some new decals and magazine recolors in this same fashion, but I don't have the pictures ready yet. And some books, recolors of a mesh from Aikea Guinea, that for some reason are not showing up. Oh well...

(Please excuse the Mediafire link, but I've just noticed that I'm currently at the 96% of my monthly bandwith at Box.net so I'm running out any moment. When did that happen?! O_o)
- Have a lovely night!

Date: 2009-04-20 03:30 am (UTC)Hee... I confess I spent a liiiitle more time on that alien board, considering the amount of aliens I have in my game (and the love we have for them at LJ-land).

And your icon made my sister laugh so much. She read the last book and says the icon is the absolute truth.

Date: 2009-04-20 03:32 am (UTC)I already use those boards too much in my game, but I agree that the original versions are a bit plain (perhaps even girly for some boys' rooms).
I'm glad you liked them :).

Date: 2009-04-20 03:35 am (UTC)My sister kept telling me which pictures to use for the boards, considering she was the inspiration for them :). Everytime she watches me play, she complains about Aspyr.
I'll upload the "wall decals" tomorrow, which were made especially for Mac users.
Enjoy the recolors :)

Date: 2009-04-20 03:37 am (UTC)You can see a bit of the magazines in my "uber cool" preview picture above (on the bed), but I can't figure out what am I doing wrong with the books.
I tried to extract them from the game but they are laying on their spines and I want them to be on their backs. That's why I'm using AG's mesh, but it just won't work! :S
Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow. If not, I'll upload just the magazines for the time being.
Enjoy the files!

Date: 2009-04-20 03:39 am (UTC)Actually, they just took me a couple hours. I guess all the practice I've done with the hair retextures has forced me to master a lot of Photoshop shortcuts ;). The annoying (and longest) part was extracting the original pictures, hands down.
Thank you very much for the vibes!

Date: 2009-04-20 02:23 am (UTC)(You've just made me decide that in my Sims story, that I'll start as soon as I have the time D:< , I'm going to need someone obsessed with finding out the true story behind Bella Goth and her disappearance. That bulletin board will make its way into that Sim's house, o' course!)
I hope all your moving and such goes well for you!

Date: 2009-04-20 03:41 am (UTC)Actually, that was precisely my reasoning when I was doing the Bella Board. According to what little I've read at MATY, right when the games came out there were a lot of people who came out with theories about Bella Goth's disappearance. So, I figured some sims would be interested in that mystery too and play detective on their own (hence the pic of one in the board, as inspiration). Good luck with your story :)
Thank you very much!

Date: 2009-04-20 03:43 am (UTC)Oh, so you're a bulletin board-phile like me? :D I confess a big reason why I got TSS was the cool new bulletin boards for the teens.
Glad you liked them!

Date: 2009-04-20 02:42 am (UTC)How did you extract all of the game's textures? That sounds like it would be extremely useful.
(no subject)
Date: 2009-04-20 03:57 am (UTC)I agree. Although I've used the regular boards way too much in all the time I've been playing the sims, I thought they'd be more useful if they were directed to more specific interests, just like the bulletin/ cork boards I've seen at my workplace or at my house, for example.
Oh... I know who's gonna use the Bella Goth board ;).
Well, I learned to extract the textures while I was trying to extract the coffee bag from the base game and the chocolate can from Seasons following this tutorial (http://www.digitalperversion.net/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=5862.0).
For the textures, you only need to do steps 5, 6 and 7. Once I took a break from the ugly world of dealing with meshes, I extracted all the pictures I liked. And you're right, they have a lot of potential for pictures, clothing and much more!
Plus I discovered a couple amusing things while I was looking at the pictures, for example, that there are pictures of the Grunts (and I think the Smiths) on the bar of the hot dog stand from Apartment Life.
And that there's actually a conversation interaction regarding the "Birds and the trees" that I've never seen in my game:
Extracting the pictures is a bit boring, though. I'm currently uploading the ones I got to my mediafire folder in case my computer goes on strike (I'm so paranoid with computers I back up everything), and I was planning to share the link to those pics when they were done, anyway :).

Date: 2009-04-20 02:51 am (UTC)The cuisine one will go in a couple of my current kitchens (including the one for my self sim =P) &, well lets face it, almost all of them are going to get used somewhere in my game.
Thank you so much!!

Date: 2009-04-20 03:47 am (UTC)LOL! I love reading about the many uses you're all finding for the Bella Goth board ^^. I hope Daniel likes it as well!
In my "real" home, we all have bulletin boards in our rooms and of course, there's one in the kitchen. If my selfsim had a house, I'll clutter it with these too.
You're welcome! Enjoy the boards :)
