The Broke Legacy: SBC Institute
Apr. 4th, 2009 08:39 pmFormerly known as the LBC Institute (because I'm silly and didn't check twice my notes before naming the institute), the SBC Institute is a very prestigious and powerful research facility whose influence has definitely left a mark around the world. The research and discoveries done during the last five generations have played a fundamental role in the development and history of the sim civilization, in particular at Strangetown, the town where it was founded.
You'll learn more about the SBC Institute, its history and founders, on the next story update. For now, I wanted to show you a few pics of the completed lot. This took me easily twice the time I spent building Belladonna Highschool, but I'm very happy with the results ^^.
I'm still figuring out if I'll share it or not, because it has more CC than Belladonna High (although I tried to keep with Maxis stuff as much as possible) and I'm not sure if you'd download a heavy lot like this or not. I want to be sure it'll be actually used before embarking in the task of writing down all the CC used and packaging it separately.
Anyway, let's take a quick tour through the SBC Institute, shall we?

The SBC Institute Exterior.
The small building at the front is the entrance, then you can see the crystal hexahedron in the center, which connects the Institute's three main buildings: The Visitor Center on the right, the researcher offices on the left and the laboratories on the back.

Entrance of the SBC Institute

Security check room.
The SBC Institute has the most advanced security system to protect the integrity of their researchers and to avoid filtering of its information.
Considering the fatal outcome of some of its most beloved researches in the past, the SBC Institute has made sure these tragic events will never be repeated.

Past the security check, you arrive to the Crystal Hexahedron.
Here, visitors wait until they are allowed permission to access the Visitor Center, or to visit any of the researchers at their offices (previous appointments are obligatory).
Only certified personal of the SBC Institute can access the laboratories, though.

The Crystal Hexahedron is an Architecture and Biology wonder, for its peculiar design creates the perfect temperature and humidity conditions that its well known Tropical Oasis requires. Considering Strangetown's extreme weather conditions, this is a wonder for its inhabitants.

So let's go to the Visitor Center first.
This is the entrance. As you can see, on the ground floor there's a cafeteria.

Yup! There it is!

Opposite to the cafeteria, you can find the bathrooms.

First Floor: Strangetown's Alien History Museum.

As you may notice, the spaceship is indeed the original vehicle in which the legendary Pollination Technician Number 9 crashed into Strangetown a long time ago, marking the beginning of the Graslaxian Era.

Top Floor: Astronomy Terrace.

Now, let's go to the Office Building.
This is the Ground Floor.

Conference Room

Botanical Office. Parting from Vidcund Curious studies on the African Violets, the researches at the SBC Institute have developed new ways to grow all kind of crops in Strangetown. Thanks to that, the town no longer has to rely on the expensive produce from the nearby counties to feed its inhabitants. This is a primordial element behind Strangetown's Economical Boom.

Network and Communication Office.

Second Floor Lobby

This used to be the office of a well known member of the Institute, who was particularly interested in the different explanations every sim culture developed for phenomena such as life, growth... and death. His biggest dream was to leave Strangetown and embark on a journey around the world... be he never did.

PR Office.

This was the office of a respectable Oceanographer, born at Strangetown, whose main topic of interest were the aquatic mammals.

But not everything at the SBC is meant to be serious.
Actually, the SBC Institute has recently become interested in the entertainment world, hence the birth of its game development and design area. This is the office of its manager, a bright, young man with severe relationship issues.
On the top floor you'll find the office of the SBC's CEO, but the access is restricted (aka it's a spoiler!)

And now, let's see the last building: The Laboratories Facility.

Main Hall
(Seems familiar, you say? ;) )

We will only take a peek through the windows of each lab for now.
Engineering Lab

Marine Biology Lab

Medicine Lab

Chemistry Lab

Behind that door is the TOP SECRET AREA of the SBC Institute.
Only personal who has gained the trust of the CEO and the board is barely allowed to take a peek inside, let alone work there!
(But we'll get past those restrictions for a few minutes :D)

What is this laboratory? This seems like the office of a scientist who does not care about professional ethics (and who's also fond of taxidermy).

And that?! Hmmm... it seems that the SBC is not displaying all the alien memorabilia it has collected on its museum.
Wait a minute... what are those odd beds? Who's sleeping there?

DUN DUN DUUUUUUN!

Past the TOP SECRET AREA, you'll find a rusty elevator.

And it takes you to the laboratory facility's top floor.
I wonder who lives in here?
Gen 5.8 Part 2 is coming up next week :)
