This prompt ended up quite a bit longer than my previous ones, so I guess I should consider it a short story instead of a drabble.

Prompt: Bunker's back story at Twin Island (by [livejournal.com profile] xel_squirgle_ox)
Universe: Twin Island (25 years after the Prologue).
Pictures: 25.

- "Please hang on, Your Highness!"

- "I see... any words from the laboratory?"
- "Actually, I've got the results back from them a..."
- "And why didn't you inform me of this earlier?!"
- "Please accept my apologies, Commander. I was about to send a memo to your office when you showed up."
- "Never mind! So? What do they say?"
- "Negative. The product inherited only half of her genetic data, as usual."
- "DAMN IT! All right... let's stay calm. When should we expect her to..."

- "Considering her health status, I don't think she'd survive another gestation at this point. Her last delivery completely drained her defenses and... her body seems to be shutting down, despite our best efforts to..."

- "B-But she hasn't gestated her successor! If she dies now..."

- "I know. It'll be the end of our race. I'm sorry, Commander, but I'm afraid there's nothing we can do, except for praying for a miracle. To be honest, though, surviving for so long despite our weakness should already be considered the Graslaxian's biggest miracle."

Zondek glanced at the dying Queen. As much as he hated to admit it, Nivlac was right. Their mother had gone through so much recently, pushing her body up to its highest limits in a desperate attempt to procreate the one that shall continue with her role, the most important one in the whole Graslax Empire.

For it was the Birthing Queen, and only her, their lone chance for survival.

Once a powerful and proud Empire, the Graslaxians dominated their galaxy with a strong hand and sanguinary methods. They truly believed there was nothing in the entire Universe that could defeat them.

And then, they had succumbed to an invisible and devastating force: Natural Selection.

Some considered it a glitch, while others believed they were being punished for their pride and cruelty. The Graslaxians suddenly mutated, and with it, they became unable to reproduce, for their children were now born with only half of their genetic data, and minimal chances of survival. For decades, the Graslaxians buried and mourned their children, who died mere minutes after birth.

Every single Graslaxian was affected by this curse... except for one: Asa Moonstone, who soon became their first Birthing Queen. She was the only member of their race with the ability to gestate new Graslaxians, though these babies couldn't procreate on their own once they reached adulthood.

Some of them, desperate to experience the miracle of life, searched high or low for a way to reproduce, or more exactly, for the ones that could complement their genetic deficiency. And when they discovered the sims, so different on the outside yet they shared an almost identical genetic map, a new race of hybrids, also known as Halfies, was born.

And one day, perhaps due to a miracle or a fluke, the Queen gave birth to a Graslaxian who inherited her perfect genetic material. This child became the Queen's successor after her early demise, exhausted from delivering so many children without rest.

The Birthing Queen line continued for several centuries and it was thanks to these Queens and Kings that the Graslaxian's overcame their tragic mutation for so long.

And then, there was Stella Terrano, their current Queen.

An energetic and curious soul, her interest for the Sim race motivated her to do what no other Birthing Queen had ever done: She pleaded to the Graslaxian Council for a break. One year, and only one, to live among the creatures that fascinated her so much, in order to learn everything there was to know about them.

Albeit confused by her odd request at first, the Council granted her wish. How could they refuse anything to their own mother, after all?

And so, Stella travelled to that strange blue planet. She chopped off her long black locks, left her fancy gown aside and basically reinvented herself as one of the Halfies. No one suspected she was actually the Queen of Graslax.

For months, the Queen explored everything around her. She spent countless hours in front of that magical window that taught the Sims so many useful skills.

She also inspected all their old-fashioned machines and inventions. There was nothing inside her apartment that she didn't tinker with.

Her experiments didn't always work as expected, though.

Unfortunately, the Queen eventually tinkered with the one thing the Council strongly forbid her to do: The simlish soul.

Stella fell in love with a sim. One of the worst ones she could ever find, nonetheless, for his family was strongly against the Graslaxians and the Halfies, who were slowly invading the whole planet.

As president of the Counsil, Zondek was horrified when he discovered that not only was his mother involved with a sim, but she also ended up carrying his child! This was an anomaly! The regular halfies only had a fourth of the Graslaxian's data. No one knew what would happen to a child who'd most likely carry more!

At the end of her "vacations", the Queen refused to go back to Graslax. She claimed she now had a true family, and she'd spend the rest of her days raising her son, Dix, who looked like just another Halfie, but only a few knew about the genetic wonder that hid inside his DNA.

The council was planning an intervention to abduct both their Queen and her product, but someone was faster than them...

The Graslaxian army stopped and terminated the attacker before he could hurt their Queen. Fearing the reaction this nasty event could unleash at Graslax, Zondek hid every single trace of it. And that included little Dix. He threw him to the sea, hoping he would be eaten by fishes or sharks, but that wasn't the case.

The last he saw of Dix, was him being carried away by a young boy who had found him on the beach. Zondek figured that as the only witness of this event, no one would ever suspect abut the baby's true origin. The past could be left behind.

But Stella never did that. Her soul died along her sim lover, and since that fateful day, she had been slowly withering, hoping for the day in which she'd see both her son and her soul mate again.

That day was now close, but she hadn't given birth to a successor yet. And everything pointed at the fact that her recent gestation was actually her last. The fate of the pure Graslaxians was pending from a very thin thread.

It was time to act.

- "I knew I'd find you here, Captain. Just as the Council feared, it is time for you to go out on your mission."

- "It's been 16 years since I last saw him, so I'm not sure if he's still residing in that Island, but you shall start your search there, nonetheless."
- "Do not worry, Commander. I shall look under every single rock in that planet. I'll not stop until I bring the product back to Graslax as you ordered."

- "I'm counting on you, Marina. You must not fail. You must bring Dix back to our planet... for he shall become our next Birthing King. "

- This alien storyline has no relation to the Broke Legacy. Things for the aliens in that story are completely different.

Next prompt is the SUPER DUPER HUG one by [livejournal.com profile] showercapfrog. Stay tuned, because I might have it ready today ^^.

Awww, it's incredibly sad but I love it! I must admit, I don't know why, but the words "unfortunate glitch" made me giggle. Is there any glitch in sims that's fortunate? XD

Ha ha ha! I hadn't noticed that!

Obvious redundancy is obvious! I really need to get a Beta :P

Although in the case of the sims, there are fortunate glitches! After all, those hilarious Lol!Sims pictures had to come from some place, right?

Very true! I guess I was thinking of things like the endless loop birthing, that gets you a gazillion of kids if you let it, or when items go glitchy and a sim gets stuck using it and can't do anything else. I forget there were funny ones too XD
