I don't have a merged neighborhood, but I've seen one at MATY (More Awesome than You). It features Pleasantview as the "main" neighborhood, with Veronaville and Strangetown as attached "Downtowns".

I think once I'm done with the Brokes, I'll try this neighborhood too!
Anyway...
I'm playing the Brokes in a normal Strangetown (the one from the game, without any changes). I extracted Beau from Pleasantview with the help of SimPe (and saved him at the "Saved Sims" folder). Then, I opened my Strangetown, went to CAS and created a new Beau from my saved Sims. I gave him the same personality as the "original" from Pleasantview and voilá!
I've done the same thing everytime I've introduced a Maxis character from another town: I also extracted Lilith, Lucy, Alexander and Puck. I placed them at an empty lot and with Simlogical's Teleporter Shrub, I turned them into townies (so I can marry them into my legacy).
Puck's backstory was just me playing the normal Summerdream Lot at Veronaville ^^.
