I agree with the Pets being perfect for elders. Beau is currently Tessa's master and I never asked him to do anything with her. He plays, feeds and cuddles her on his own. I guess poor Tessa will be the one who will suffer the most when Beau dies :(.
I already have Gen 3.4 ready! I just have to write it! :)
