Update and one hair retexture

Thanks for the good vibes and wishes, everyone :). Things are still a bit tense right now, and according to the news, we shall have a confirmation on when will the schools be reopened or, in the worst case scenario, if there'll be an official quarantine in the city.

For now, I went to the market as early as possible (to avoid crowds) and bought enough canned food, water and vitamin C supplements in case something bad happens (but we're trying to remain positive). I also got some antibacterial gel (which is worthless since this is a virus, but it's good to have anyway) and surgical masks from a dental store, so we can wear them if we go outside.

So for now we're set for the following week, and we'll just hope this menace will fade away as soon as possible (and if possible, it'll remain here instead of propagating around the world, as the experts fear). None of us are experiencing any of the swine flue symptoms yet, and I pray things will remain that way.

I guess I shall spend the next few days finding creative ways to not go insane during this forced lock up. Well, at least my sisters are in the same situation, so we'll have time to catch up (there are days in which we barely have time to chat!), read, do more planning for my upcoming move and mastering the Guitar Heroes game. I'll also try to finish Pokémon Pearl, because thanks to the new Platinum game, the kids at my work are obsessed big time and since I'm still stuck in 1998 regarding these games, I need to catch up on the 400 Pokémons I don't know yet :P.

So, I'm still worried, but now that we've taken some preventive measures I feel a lot safer.

And as a way to pass time while I listen to the news during this long, long and boring day, here's a new hair retexture:

This is the new hair from XM Sims. Cute, but the textures were horrid and worst of all, it wasn't enabled for elders nor young adults. But I fixed that :D.

- Textures by chokelate.
- Teen to Elder (Yay! And the gray hair is included with the black file)
- Six Natural recolors (I'm doing some experimenting with my reds and browns, considering how some people prefer more orangish tones instead of my insane love for bright red hair).
- Mesh by Niu (XMSims) included.
- Compressed, binned and familiarized.

By the way, I'm aware that a lot of my files are not available right now due to bandwith issues with box.net. I guess they'll be back on May 1st :(. I tried to upgrade my account, but box.net is ridiculously expensive (and does not take paypal), so I apologize for not being able to bring them back at the moment.

If I find a reliable host (Mediafire is not trustworthy enough to me), I'll spend some time during my lock up to reupload my hairs as a backup.

Eheh, I was actually going to ask, "So, if you're holed up for the next week, is it a good time to ask for hair retextures?" I was somewhat against it, but it seems you need something to do, no?

I first heard of SimsConnection from a preview pic of some CC (one of Enayla's skins, I think). They're a paysite, so the booty hosts their files. Could you take a look at these hairs?:

affectionate_object_female
affectionate_object_male
ethnic
pigtails
prince
scarlet_crusade
sophomore_year
time_after_time
tropical_honeymoon

If you can't do all of those, affectionate_object (both) and time_after_time are my faves.

And then if you need happying up, take a peek at the irony that is "pure_lust," another SC hair. It made my day when I found it.

Yup, I definitely need something to do or I'll go insane (or get depressed, which is much worse for me). Isn't it funny how stubborn people can be, that as soon as we're told "You can't leave your house!" we immediately want to do that? :P

Oh, I remember a lot of those hairs! I used them waaaay at the beginning of my "simming days", but got rid of them because I hated that they were at the back of the custom bin and it took me forever to find them.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to retexture them, because those seem like handpainted curls and I sadly lack the skills for that, but I'll try to recolor them.

Oh! And I have some affectionate object recolors... let me see where I got them from...

Ooh, those are very nice hairs! Do what you can, these will do if you can't manage the curls.

I hate when normal hairs end up in the custom bin. I need to take care of some of those on my comp soon, here.

(Aside from the curls, are the other hairs good for retexting?)

The Ethnic hair doesn't have a mesh, so I can't edit it.

The pigtails hair is cute, it's already Maxis-ish, but I'll see if I can retexture it. It's mostly an edit of a Maxis mesh with the added bows and the bangs.

The prince hair is a large version of the messy hair from Maxis, and for some reason they added some very ugly textures. I'm gonna try adding the original ones from Maxis and see how it looks.

The time after time has painted on textures but I think I can substitute those with some wavy ones I have at hand.

And this is what I have of the Scarlet crusade:



I'm not a mesh expert, but I think these meshes are so old that their UV mappings have several issues. For example, in this hair, although I resized chokelate's textures to match the original ones, they appear way too distorted in BS (too large in some places, especially the back). Sadly, this is the best I can do to retexture these hairs at the moment, because I have no idea how to fix UV mappings (I don't even know if that's possible), but I'll work on it later to see if I can improve it with even smaller textures.

I'm kind of confused. How does the ethnic hair not have a mesh?

I wasn't too much of a fan of the prince textures either. And I like the Maxis yellowy-blond better than the whiter one there.
