From [livejournal.com profile] prescilla_bean :

I've taken this test three times already, hoping that the system requirements would change the closer we got to the release date. With just one month away, I'm afraid they won't change now.

I confess that hearing about this new game makes me a bit sad, because everyone will move on to the Sims 3 and things will change a lot. There's people who even plan to delete everything related to the Sims 2 as soon as they buy the new game. I'll miss the community :(.

Is anyone else also sticking with the Sims 2 for now?

________

In other news, we're having a good time away from the city. Not that we're doing anything exciting, but we're glad to be able to sit outside, enjoy the sun and talk without worries (or wearing masks!). We still take some measures to protect ourselves, like being very careful with our hygiene.

I hope you're all having a nice weekend! :)

Well, seeing as I'm just getting back into the Sims 2 and never really felt the need for Sims 3, I'll be sticking around for now. :)

I just imagined the two of us sitting in the corner of the classroom wearing one of those "fail" conical hats like the ones in the old cartoons. :P

(Now that I think about it, that was a horrible way to discipline students, IMO).

I'm not in any great hurry to get Sims 3, and I can't imagine just switching completely very quickly even if I were going to get it right away, because Sims 2 has so many expansions and so much content, and Sims 3 may be more customizable right off the bat, but it's not going to have that stuff. I'm interested in Strangetown, which won't exist there, and in mucking around with characters that it's taken me ages to get together all the right content for, which won't be available right way. I love the idea of the traits, and look forward to mucking with the game, but so far we don't really know how it'll be for visual storytelling.

According to the videos I watched the other day with my siblings, there are (or will be) many features for storytelling (or movie making) on the Sims 3.

But I agree that we won't be able to recreate the stuff we can do now with the Sims 2 with just the base game. Especially if we're confined to one neighborhood, so building sets would be a waste of space, for example.

I'm more interested in the Sims 3 as a game, instead as a tool for telling stories or creating content.

I'm not going over to the Sims 3 at any point. I am perfectly happy with the Sims 2, and REALLY do not feel the need to spend any more money on the Sims franchise. >_> I bought all of Sims 1 and all of Sims 2, and I am DONE. I don't regret spending all that money, because I ADORE the sims, but I just don't feel the need to move on to their ~bigger and better~. I'm content.

I just bought the Sims 1 games up to Hot Date (and I got Unleashed as a present a couple years later) because they were VERY expensive in Mexico.

The Sims 2 games, surprisingly, were cheaper. I actually bought Pets and OFB at 15 dollars each (200 mexican pesos), for example. I even found a collection of Sims 1 games for 30 dollars last year... which I haven't installed yet. I should do so, because I want to try out the Magic EP to see if it's as awesome as I've read.

I'm also happy with the Sims 2 at the moment. I'm definitely not bored with it yet, but I'm curious about the new game's features as well.

Besides the Suckurom issue, EA should make their games more accessible for slower systems.

My computer is 10 months old and it runs the Sims 2 fairly well with a ton of CC (not OMG great graphics, but I think my pictures are decent), so I can't believe I won't be able to play the Sims 3 at all with it.

I'm not planning on getting it yet. Aside from having too much left on my current stories, I don't want to move over until I know they have some good hacks out.

And I really do like sims 2 a LOT.

I already decided that I'm going to wait until the first expansion for sims 3- before I get it.
I want to make sure that most of my favorite mods or what not are made for sim3 before I let go of sims2. Considering I just spent the last 4 days replacing my downloads folder that somehow became corrupted- I have to play with it for like 4 months before its justified.
Stay safe!

...Okay.

Anyway, I`ll be sticking with the Sims2, definitely. Even if I end up buying the new game, I won`t be ditching one for the other. I love Sims2 and what I`ve seen and heard from Sims3 so far hasn`t exactly succeeded in winning me over.

I'm also staying with the Sims 2. My laptop already throws up a ton of graphical issues when I'm trying to play that, and apparently my RAM and processor are too low for the Sims 3. =| It looks like a really fun game, but I just can't play it!

I'm glad you're able to relax now you're outside the city. =)

If you're on a Mac (like me) you can't even test!

Ordinarily, I would assume that since I have a top end Mac, and the game says Mac on it that it will run. But, it's EA/maxis - when would that stop them from taking someone's money!

O_o They decided our money wasn't good enough for them after they ported BV. (which sucks, since with K&B, FT, AL, and M&G all my sim wishes would have come true. T_T)

Glad to hear you're enjoying a nice healthy time!

I'm sticking with Sims 2 for a quite a while. I can only really come up with the time to play one game. I have a legacy to finish, which I'm trying to wrap up before too long: like you, I'm worried about my readership disappearing. But I can't see myself getting Sims 3 until I've seen what other people think of it, and heard about the messy glitches that it's bound to have, and seen what Pescado and Co can do to fix them, and seen some nice CC come out. . .I'd say Christmas, maybe, if that. And I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way.

BTW, your fairy paintings are getting used a LOT in my new houses :)

Even with a brand new computer, we barely meet the requirements. I wasn't planning on getting it right away anyway. For one, it says it's a single player game, and my daughter likes to play too. Secondly, I'm still having fun with the Sims 2.

I am sad about losing a good portion of the community. I'm fairly certain it will happen, maybe not right away, but over time. Just like with the original Sims.

my computer is pretty old, or rather some parts of it is. The only requirement i didn't meet (surprisingly enough) was that my CPU was too slow. So the test told me to get a new faster computer xD

Anyways if you barely meet the minimum requirements, then you'd have to play on crap graphics, and who the hell would wanna do that? Actually that was why i didn't get TS2 before uni, cause i would have to run it on shit graphics.

BUT the reason i commented to your comment, was to agree with you. I used to be really active in the TS1 community back in the days, and when TS3 talk started, everyone and their dog vowed that they'd never get it, and stick with TS2.. But we know its not like that, 90% of the TS2 community will leave for TS3 and that's just a fact. But with that said, i know there are still hardcore TS1 gamers, who swears to that version, and cc is still being made. So i don't feel particularly silly, sticking to my TS2.

i'll still be rockin' s2

I'm fairly certain my seven year old machine can't run it. (Yes, I know it's time for a new one. Can't. Afford. It.)

And to be honest... the fact that they never bothered to port the last 2.5 eps to mac has left a bad taste in my mouth. I know s3 will run on intel macs, but since eaxis has pretty much told me and my money to f*ck off, all i can feel is, "why bother?"

My computer will run it... but on low settings so i don't see the point, really. I'm not going to pick up the game until I get a new computer for it, and frankly I'm having fun with Ts2 right now. There will still be a strong Ts2 community for a while.

I'm glad you guys are doing okay. It's just a little while longer and hopefully it'll all pass.

If worth something, I'm not planning to get Sims 3 (I'd say *never* but that is maybe too much to say lol), at least not until I see a huge improvement on the game, whatever is with eps (if they are any) and/or mods and such from the community.

I've try to give it some hope, watching videos and screens, but only feel worse about it every time.

The sims still scare me, and even if there is a way to improve features, I can't find anything that really gets my interest, or at least not to compensate for what the game is loosing imo. *shrugs*

Glad to know you're ok! :)

TBH, it really surprised me when I tried this and I passed it. I don't think I'll get it though, since I'd have to leave a lot from The Sims 2 behind.

Unless there's a Sims 4, it doesn't seem like anyone from the neighborhoods other than Pleasantview will exist again. No Ripp, no Frances J. ... D:

Plus I've heard CC creation might only be restricted to places like TSR. And EAxis could even change their EULA for TS3 to allow paysites. Don't know if they would, but it's certainly possible.
